Do you know what this is?

 I'm actually not sure myself...

  We had it at a friend's house last week and really enjoyed it.

 So we decided to give it a try...

 with rice wine vinegar like previously.

 My son says it tastes like cold slaw.  Can anyone out there tell me what it is?  And would it lose something in the translation.
